OOZ BAND / Marmooz or Oozième acte

A wildly energetic brass band from Rennes comprising eight musical adventurers, the OOZ BAND only plays original compositions, blending African-American music (funk, jazz, hip hop, groove, New Orleans…) with otherworldly choreography and costumes straight out of a Stanley Kubrick film.

With a format adaptable to both stage and street performances, the OOZ BAND can perform on any type of surface, for all kinds of events, anywhere in France or beyond, for your greatest enjoyment ! Several formats are available and can be adapted to your requirements.

Their latest album XII is available on streaming platforms :

In Breton, ‘Marmooz’ means ‘to do silly things’ or ‘a little kid’ . This new show aims to free the audience from their shyness and their inhibitions

.  Like a child free from all responsibility who doesn’t think before acting, but lets their body express itself to the music, without any restraint. We want the audience, no matter their age, to rediscover their innocence, their childlike spirit, and their desire to be playful and meet new people.

To achieve this, we want to rethink the artists’ position and broaden the audience’s perspective.

Marmooz aims to be inclusive ; we want everyone to feel part of the experience and free to participate actively. The boundary between musicians and spectators dissolves to create space for encounters . The aim is therefore to maintain a strong sense of closeness by experimenting with new spatial arrangements to choreograph our pieces. The staging must allow everyone to fully enjoy the show, whether they are on the stage left or stage right.

Always with the aim of fostering a sense of closeness with the audience, the OOZ BAND attaches great importance to composing modern pieces that are in tune with our times. Thus, this new creation is infused with influences from electro, hip-hop and also the music of New Orleans.

With this new show, the OOZ BAND hasn’t completely strayed from their distinctive, offbeat style either. Humour remains a key element, essential for letting go and connecting with the audience. Whilst they have evolved slightly, the costumes will still be outrageous, adorned with the golden ‘Z’, the group’s emblem, like a troupe of superheroes capable of transforming us into playful grown-ups.

Supported by the CNM : ‘With the support of the Centre National de la Musique’.

If you fell in love with *Oozième Act*, the previous show, don’t worry – you can still book it !

Lighting design for the new show “OOZIEME ACT” – Alexandre Périgaud

The second instalment, “Oozième Act”, is a possible sequel to the first show, as our eight explorers set off on new adventures and discoveries. They seem

to be drifting in a suspended moment : The Oozième Hour (a play on words with the eleventh hour), the hour when time stands still and during which all fables are possible before the 12 strokes of midnight ring out. Somewhere between the Eleventh and Twelfth hour, the scene unfolds in the Oozième Dimension, beyond our earthly references…

Their costumes have changed during the journey : somewhere between Superheroes and Super-Zeros, their outfits shine and reference the science fiction films and series of the

1980s.

Through their set design, reminiscent of a Stargate or a spaceship, they take to the stage in a cosmic atmosphere, enhanced by their

music.

Their new quest is to get everyone who moves and can dance grooving. Rhythm and positive energy are their watchwords.

No matter where they turn up, their aim is to make people dance, sing, surprise and be surprised, and they’re determined to make it happen come what may!!!..
