A reper\u00adtoire is taking shape, roo\u00adted in the tra\u00addi\u00adtion of fes\u00adtive, trance, popu\u00adlar and non-mains\u00adtream music, which share func\u00adtions that are at once com\u00admu\u00adnal and joy\u00adful, social and col\u00adlec\u00adtive.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The brass band func\u00adtions as a nucleus around which dan\u00adcers, ban\u00adner-bea\u00adrers and mobile kit\u00adchen units gather. The ensemble is brought to life through hybrid cos\u00adtumes that blend ritual, car\u00adni\u00adval prac\u00adtices, tra\u00addi\u00adtio\u00adnal adorn\u00adments and contem\u00adpo\u00adra\u00adry street cultures (pro\u00adtests, urban sub\u00adcul\u00adtures). Added to this tableau is a cho\u00adreo\u00adgra\u00adphic style blen\u00adding move\u00adment and ban\u00adner mani\u00adpu\u00adla\u00adtion, as well as a sta\u00adging of public space through the use of smoke effects and public dis\u00adplays.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From this hybrid pro\u00adces\u00adsion emerges the pos\u00adsi\u00adbi\u00adli\u00adty of a power\u00adful emer\u00adgence in the public space, offe\u00adring new poe\u00adtic and poli\u00adti\u00adcal nar\u00adra\u00adtives. Thus, SONNAILLES helps to remind us that the street belongs to eve\u00adryone and that within it lies an eman\u00adci\u00adpa\u00adto\u00adry, civic and mul\u00adti\u00adcul\u00adtu\u00adral power.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Whil\u00adst SONNAILLES could be pre\u00adsen\u00adted as a stan\u00adda\u00adlone pro\u00adject, its most ful\u00adly rea\u00adli\u00adsed form would take shape through com\u00admu\u00adni\u00adty-based ini\u00adtia\u00adtives, where the pro\u00adces\u00adsion would become a space and time for co-crea\u00adtion with local resi\u00addents. In these times of mul\u00adtiple crises, the very nature of artis\u00adtic prac\u00adtice is being chal\u00adlen\u00adged by the harsh rea\u00adli\u00adties of life, its com\u00adplex issues and its pres\u00adsing concerns.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How, then, can we conti\u00adnue to make art in a way that is roo\u00adted in its context, dri\u00adven by a joy free from nai\u00adve\u00adty and a poe\u00adtry unique to the things of life&nbsp;? If there is to be a gene\u00adsis, it sur\u00adely lies in our belief in the power of the artis\u00adtic act and the col\u00adlec\u00adtive spi\u00adrit that stems from it\u2014a joy\u00adful, popu\u00adlar spi\u00adrit in the finest sense of the word.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And then, on the one hand, there was a trip to New Orleans for Lucas Elzi\u00e8re, with its music, mar\u00adching bands, second lines, jazz clubs and the under\u00adground trap scene of the Treme clubs. On the other, expe\u00adriences of fes\u00adti\u00advals and parades in public spaces for Johan\u00adna Rocard (Braves, in the Hau\u00adte\u00adpierre hou\u00adsing estate, the Under\u00adground Parade in Bon\u00adne\u00admain, The Art of Joy for 8 March 2024). Along\u00adside her aca\u00adde\u00admic stu\u00addies, she wor\u00adked in various sec\u00adtors, some more lucra\u00adtive than others, ran\u00adging from car\u00adpet sales\u00adwo\u00adman to moto\u00adcross pre\u00adsen\u00adter and cook.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A mem\u00adber and co-foun\u00adder of La Col\u00adlec\u00adtive, she is par\u00adti\u00adcu\u00adlar\u00adly inter\u00ades\u00adted in rituals and the concept of group spi\u00adrit.
