BRAVE COMPAGNIE puts its heart into eve\u00adry\u00adthing it does, offe\u00adring a space for poly\u00admor\u00adphous crea\u00adtions and inclu\u00adsive col\u00adla\u00adbo\u00adra\u00adtions where indi\u00advi\u00addual and col\u00adlec\u00adtive bodies, ancient and contem\u00adpo\u00adra\u00adry rituals, struggles of yes\u00adter\u00adday and today, drums and tech\u00adno, the living and the dead, still and moving images, nar\u00adra\u00adtives and fic\u00adtion, joy and resis\u00adtance inter\u00adt\u00adwine.<\/span><\/p>\n

THERAPEUTIC AND RESILIENT DANCEFLOOR<\/span><\/p>\n

LE BAL DES ARDENTES is a the\u00adra\u00adpeu\u00adtic and resi\u00adlient dan\u00adce\u00adfloor born out of pre\u00advious col\u00adla\u00adbo\u00adra\u00adtions bet\u00adween artist Johan\u00adna Rocard and DJ Aman\u00addine Braud. After three years of col\u00adlec\u00adting uplif\u00adting music tracks for the BRAVES project\u2014a dan\u00adce\u00adfloor for times of crisis\u2014they now present a hybrid for\u00admat, where dances com\u00adbine with soma\u00adtic prac\u00adtices, ver\u00adna\u00adcu\u00adlar dances and the empo\u00adwe\u00adring power of music, offe\u00adring a space and time for col\u00adlec\u00adtive and alter\u00adna\u00adtive hea\u00adling.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the tra\u00addi\u00adtion of cathar\u00adtic dan\u00adcers, fel\u00adlow per\u00adfor\u00admers and ama\u00adteurs lead the way, gui\u00adding par\u00adti\u00adci\u00adpants through a time\u00adless, cele\u00adbra\u00adto\u00adry ritual. A selec\u00adtion of cos\u00adtumes and armour is pro\u00advi\u00added, and behind the hor\u00adned caps, bea\u00added masks, frin\u00adged coats, false bot\u00adtoms and hoods, the figures of cha\u00adri\u00adva\u00adris, popu\u00adlar trances, uphea\u00advals and revolts emerge.<\/span><\/p>\n

It is the return of the crea\u00adtures of the mar\u00adgins who once again set the dance floors ablaze as a col\u00adlec\u00adtive act of hea\u00adling.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2018It is said that it all began with a woman from the neigh\u00adbou\u00adrhood, Frau Trof\u00adfea, who one mor\u00adning got up and threw her child over a bridge. She began to dance and could not stop, fol\u00adlo\u00adwed by other women. It is said that from then on, the dance took hold of young and old alike. They dan\u00adced day and night, until they col\u00adlap\u00adsed from exhaus\u00adtion. Stands were erec\u00adted in the horse mar\u00adket square and in the grain mar\u00adket square, and people were hired to dance with them to the sound of drums and fifes.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

LA GRANDE FOLIE \/ THE GRAT MADNESS is a 15-minute per\u00adfor\u00admance piece, a phy\u00adsi\u00adcal encoun\u00adter bet\u00adween a dan\u00adcer, Nina Ber\u00adclaz, and a cos\u00adtume, a spin\u00adning cape.<\/span><\/p>\n

Accom\u00adpa\u00adnied by the memo\u00adry of Frau Trof\u00adfea, the great mad\u00adness of Stras\u00adbourg and figures of women said to be mad, the per\u00adfor\u00admance is a tri\u00adbute to the pos\u00adses\u00adsed, the res\u00adt\u00adless, those who dis\u00adturb, those who take action and over\u00adturn the esta\u00adbli\u00adshed order. Amid\u00adst the swirls of fabric, the sha\u00addows appear of the French cancan\u2019s girls of joy, of whir\u00adling der\u00advishes, of Eguns dan\u00adcers, and of all those on the mar\u00adgins who sur\u00adround them\u00adselves with a cir\u00adcu\u00adlar adorn\u00adment to bet\u00adter connect with others, dead or alive. Dances of<\/span><\/p>\n

the earth, mad\u00adness and the sacred are once again inter\u00adt\u00adwi\u00adned. And when the veil is lif\u00adted, the spi\u00adder woman returns, caught bet\u00adween ven\u00adgeance and col\u00adlec\u00adtive cathar\u00adsis.<\/span><\/p>\n

Aman\u00addine Braud\u2019s sound\u00adscape, blen\u00adding ritual chan\u00adting with tech\u00adno beats, sets the rhythm for this floor dance, brin\u00adging to life this ode to mad\u00adness and the power of the circle.<\/span><\/p>\n

JOHANNA ROCARD \u2013 ARTIST, AUTHOR AND CHOREOGRAPHER<\/strong><\/p>\n

After trai\u00adning in dance and obtai\u00adning a degree in social sciences, Johan\u00adna Rocard com\u00adple\u00adted her stu\u00addies with a Master\u2019s degree in visual arts at the Uni\u00adver\u00adsi\u00adty of Rennes II. Along\u00adside her aca\u00adde\u00admic stu\u00addies, she wor\u00adked in various sec\u00adtors, some more lucra\u00adtive than others, ran\u00adging from car\u00adpet sales\u00adwo\u00adman to moto\u00adcross pre\u00adsen\u00adter and cook.<\/span><\/p>\n

A mem\u00adber and co-foun\u00adder of La Col\u00adlec\u00adtive, she is par\u00adti\u00adcu\u00adlar\u00adly inter\u00ades\u00adted in rituals and the concept of group spi\u00adrit. These diverse expe\u00adriences and inter\u00addis\u00adci\u00adpli\u00adna\u00adry know\u00adledge now enable the artist, author and cho\u00adreo\u00adgra\u00adpher to deve\u00adlop a mul\u00adti\u00adfa\u00adce\u00adted prac\u00adtice struc\u00adtu\u00adred around non-hie\u00adrar\u00adchi\u00adcal action research into the concept of the col\u00adlec\u00adtive, and more spe\u00adci\u00adfi\u00adcal\u00adly into the ges\u00adtures and rituals of war\u00adding off mis\u00adfor\u00adtune that bind human groups toge\u00adther in times of cri\u00adsis.<\/span><\/p>\n

Estelle Chaigne is a pho\u00adto\u00adgra\u00adpher and artist, affi\u00adlia\u00adted with Ate\u00adliers du Vent.<\/span><\/p>\n

She explores a range of pho\u00adto\u00adgra\u00adphic tech\u00adniques, using eve\u00adry\u00adthing from 19th-cen\u00adtu\u00adry view came\u00adras and magne\u00adsium flashes to tem\u00adpo\u00adra\u00adry tat\u00adtoos and digi\u00adtal video.<\/span><\/p>\n

Her prac\u00adtice takes the form of ins\u00adtal\u00adla\u00adtions, videos and per\u00adfor\u00admances that engage with the act of pho\u00adto\u00adgra\u00adphy and the pho\u00adto\u00adgra\u00adphic medium, and its capa\u00adci\u00adty to reveal the invi\u00adsible and the latent. Her work on signs, ver\u00adna\u00adcu\u00adlar prac\u00adtices and inha\u00adbi\u00adted bodies leads her to explore the connec\u00adtion bet\u00adween roman\u00adti\u00adcism and nature, wit\u00adch\u00adcraft and land\u00adscape, rituals and pea\u00adsant prac\u00adtices.<\/span><\/p>\n

Aman\u00addine Braud is a DJ. She grew up in a jazz club in Paris, lan\u00added a job at the Ope\u00adra, under\u00adtook a crash course in impro\u00advi\u00adsed music with the free punk band Elec\u00adtrique Pus\u00adsies, spent ten years lis\u00adte\u00adning to the vibra\u00adtions of expe\u00adri\u00admen\u00adtal and noise music stages before hit\u00adting the night\u00adclubs of Doua\u00adla in Came\u00adroon. Enough to keep her dan\u00adcing day and night.<\/span><\/p>\n

She nur\u00adtures her love of poly\u00adpho\u00adnic nar\u00adra\u00adtives and com\u00admu\u00adni\u00adty prac\u00adtices as a cultu\u00adral media\u00adtor at La Cri\u00e9e, a contem\u00adpo\u00adra\u00adry art centre in Rennes. From time to time, she creates props for stage desi\u00adgns aimed at young audiences.<\/span><\/p>\n
